What is UDL?
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an educational framework that guides the development of flexible learning environments that can accommodate individual learning differences. Instead of waiting for a student to disclose a disability and ask for help, UDL asks: "How can we design this course so that it is accessible to *everyone* from day one?"
Multiple Means of Representation
Don't just give a lecture. Provide the slides, a video recording, and a transcript. Give students options on how they consume information.
Multiple Means of Expression
Why must the final assessment always be a written essay? Could a student demonstrate their knowledge through a podcast, a video presentation, or a portfolio? UDL encourages flexible assessment methods that allow students to play to their strengths.
