Access to Work - What HR Needs to Know
Access to Work is a government grant scheme that pays towards the cost of AT software, hardware, and specialist training for employees with a disability or health condition. The employer pays upfront and is reimbursed.
Who qualifies?
Any employee with a physical or mental health condition that affects daily working life - including dyslexia, ADHD, and anxiety.
How much?
Up to 100% of costs for new claimants. No upper limit in the first year. Typically covers software, hardware, and training.
How to apply?
The employee applies online at GOV.UK. HR should support with a workplace assessment if requested by the assessor.
A template document for employees to record their agreed adjustments, tools, and working patterns. Keep this on file so support does not have to be renegotiated when managers change.
